Before docking, the Dragon spacecraft had to carefully synchronise its orbit with the ISS, matching both position and speed. This intricate procedure, known as rendezvous, is followed by a sequence of highly precise manoeuvres to align and connect the capsule with the station. At first, a ‘soft capture’ was confirmed, indicating a flexible initial contact that safely absorbed the spacecraft’s kinetic energy. Moments later, NASA mission control confirmed a ‘hard capture,’ locking the capsule securely onto the Harmony module of the ISS.
